Revelation 2-3: Ten Common Threads of the Churches

Ten Common Threads that run through all the Messages to the Churches

  1. Jesus is right in the midst of all the churches—AND HE KNOWS

  1. All looked good in the beginning, and started out doing good deeds

  1. Jesus emphasizes love—Matt.22:37 the greatest commandment

  1. God disciplines His own people, Rev.2:5, “or else I am coming to you”

  1. Their need to remember—the Deut. 8:19 fatal flaw of human nature is forgetting
  1. Sense of urgency, repent now

  1. Some churches are poor but rich, but some are rich but poor

  1. All churches look good from a distance, from the outside, but Jesus knows

  1. All are rebuked except the poor and persecuted-Smyrna and Philadelphia

  1. Same positive motivation-Christ is coming and rewards are promised
