New Testament Freedom

New Testament Freedom

Genesis 1:27-28—“God created man in His own image…to subdue the earth and rule over …every living thing”

Genesis 2:15—“the Lord took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it.”

Meaning: God created man to have a loving relationship with Him and to serve God and glorify God. Man was created to live under the authority of God.

Exodus 19:6—“you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation”

Meaning: Their liberation from slavery had its purpose in serving God and obeying His Law. The alternative to slavery in Egypt was not to do anything they wanted, but rather freedom to serve the Lord.

John 8:31-32—“If you abide in my Word then you are truly disciples of mine, and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”

Meaning: Knowing and believing the gospel of Jesus Christ sets you free from the sin that enslaves you.

Romans 6:17-18—“But thanks be to God that though you were slaves to sin you became obedient from the heart to (the truth), and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness”

Meaning: Christ’s atoning work on the cross freed us from sin, so that we now serve Him

Galatians 3:13-14—-“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us…so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit though faith”

Meaning: Christ freed us from death, so that we might receive His Spirit and serve Him.

2 Cor. 3:18—“we all…are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory just as from the Lord, the Spirit”. Meaning: Freedom leads to moral transformation.

Romans 8:21—“the creation itself will be set free from its corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God…and we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for…the redemption of our body.” Meaning: our ultimate freedom will be in the resurrection

1 Cor. 9:19—“though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all”

Meaning: I am free from being judged by the law or traditions, but I freely subject myself for the glory of God.
